Thou shalt not leave ringer on…..damn it

on

Damn it.

I left Clarksville for a three hour tour…ok, three days in reality, but the Gilligan theme song has been in my head for several days so if not for the courage of the fearless crew….

The plan:

Leave Clarksville around 11pm. Drive to Buccees  in Georgia… sleep three hours (in the parking lot) before driving to the set in Atlanta.

Work 8-10 hours on a new movie.

Find a job for Tuesday, get a hotel in the new (cheap) place I have found.

Go to the set on Tuesday – whatever it was – then leave and drive to South Carolina get a hotel somewhere – show up for the already booked movie.

Great plan.  Nice round trip to greatly increase travel efficiency, maximize opportunities…blah, blah, blah.

The Reality: (or, the best laid plans of mice and men…the tiny ship was tossed)

Left Clarksville 11 pm…check.

Drove to Buccees…check.

Slept fitfully for (maybe) an hour…damn bus pulled up, some dude with a camper kept opening and closing his door, a golf cart picking up trash was playing Nascar around the lot…damn it.

Got on up, drove to the set in Atlanta…worked about 14.5 hours into the night…found no job for Tuesday, and didn’t care at that point…was EXHAUSTED!

Got to the new hotel spot around midnight…air didn’t work…EXHAUSTED, so just said screw it and slept.

Woke up took a coldish shower, cause the hot water seemed to be struggling.

Left for the three hour drive (the tour continues) to South Carolina.

Booked a room in the only hotel that was affordable on my “make sure I break even doing extra work budget” that had any positive reviews.

Tried to wash some clothes in the hotel laundry room, but the washer was down.

Went to a local laundry mat and was (aggressively) verbally assaulted by the person working there….still have no freaking idea what they perceived as my transgression…so I left with almost dry clothes.

Went to the set and it was a good day….well except for why I am writing this.

It was a smaller set, so should be a lot of screen time. Interesting story, characters…met a lot of new folks, ran into some folks I had met in Atlanta in the past. We were in an old college building, a small set of rooms…intimate.

The day was going great (still in the back of my head – what did I do to the person at the laundry mat????)…but still freaking awesome.

Then I heard a phone ringing during filming.

“who is that dumbass”, I asked to myself.

“Who would commit this egregious sin on the set…Who….???”

It was me. My phone is never set to ring, Never…but I had somehow put it in my pocket and it had bumped the “set to freaking ring…damn it button”.

DAMN IT!  I was instantly that guy.

Damn it.

Damn it.

Damn it!!

Today…sitting in the shame of it all, pondering what laundry mat sin I committed that caused the person such anger…wallowing in the embarrassment of being “that guy”…pounding into my head…turn off your phone…turn off your phone…turn off your….you get it.

All while looking for more jobs…because I love it…and I will find more as soon as I can….

Because I am Mike…and I am a background junkie.
