I can see…but no leather seats?

on

I wrote about barely being legal to drive a short while ago, having made a decision to get my vision corrected with cataract surgery.

What I did not fully understand at first; correcting my vision would also require implants. Hell, I was completely caught off guard when I learned that much like buying a new car…there was a “package” selection to be made. Now it didn’t include sunroofs or leather seats, but there was an ability to be “legal to drive without glasses” option available.

I need to drive and hate glasses, so I said let’s go, paid the bill and reclined in the chair.

I ain’t gonna lie…it is freaky to lay watching shhhhtuff coming toward your eyes (even after the nasty tasting cocktail to help you relax); seeing the laser equipment dropping, the numbing drops, the shot…the pouring water over the resulting partial blindness as the process continues…then the dorky eye protection and Roy Orbison shades you get to wear on the way home. FREAKY!!

Between eye one (three days in) and eye two, I attended my 45th class reunion. Two more days in and before the second eye…I spent 13 hours in Columbia doing some background work on a set for 911 Nashville, watched TV, went to the Walmart, doom scrolled social media…cooked, etc.; except for reading, without glasses.

Without glasses…and according to the optometrist seeing through my left eye at 20/20.

It was still a bit weird to look through my left eye and see in high def, then closing that eye and seeing the brown haze that still existed in my right eye. I had no idea how much difference there really was going to be in the before/after shots.

Now here I am at day two post cataract surgery and intraocular “legal to drive” lens implant on my second eye; typing these words with weak reading glasses. The second eye wasn’t as quick to clear up, but as the day has progressed it is way more better (correct English for this event) and incredible. I can see license plates, read bill boards, see words on signs…I could even read the Doc’s computer (on his desk) while sitting in the optometrist chair without squinting or leaning forward…but more…without glasses!!

So, all of you I have warned time and again to leave before me, or watch out for me on the road – especially after dark…I am back! Not saying I can drive any better, but I will at least see ya before I bump into you.

Thanks…..

I have to give thanks to Alyssa Jackson at Sango Eye Care for referring me to Loden Vision Center – and to Alex Jackson for the aftercare. The Jackson’s in Sango and everyone at the Loden Vision Center in Goodlettsville took the time to answer any questions I had, to talk and walk me through the surgery and options…and to calm the fear of having anyone probing my eyes with sharp objects.

The nurses at Loden were equally professional and personable, creating a calm and comfortable setting…and didn’t kick me out when I (jokingly) told them I had just eaten ten minutes before arriving for surgery.

If you are looking for eye care…you cannot go wrong with either office.
