I was told yesterday that I am now a minority by a republican MAGA supporter – then they threw in the obligatory “woke”…that isn’t an insult to me by the way. 

They said it, not because I am a 62 yr old white male and our race is being taken over by immigrants like we are being told, but because I believe in the rights of everyone while living in Tennessee. This is what the normalization of disrespect for each other has led so many to feel is acceptable. The reality is I am a fairly conservative Tennessee democrat; until you start saying “rights for me, not for thee”.

First, I do not believe that I am in the minority for caring about others, for wanting to see everyone have the opportunities I have had as a white male. And I refuse to believe that it is not ok to show compassion, or to fight for those who are persecuted (now in Congress) for their sexual preferences, or choices about their sexual orientation. 

I do not think I am in the minority for wanting women to have rights over their own bodies? 

And it cannot be because banning Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss in public schools offends me to a point of complete lack of tolerance for those pushing their agenda. 

Is it because I am not a white nationalist (insert Christian in there if you like) and still believe that no matter your race, we all have the same rights in this country. 

I still believe in religious freedom, and will not accept that we should force one religion into our schools, or homes, over another; that why I am a minority in my home state? 

Maybe because I understand that our economy is larger than our living room, and pretending otherwise is only a political talking point…that you do not reduce costs by withdrawing from that truth?

I just want sanity in our government, not smug indifference for anything that isn’t white, Christian and fitting only one extreme viewpoint. Any party that gets into control and ignores over half of America is self-serving and does not fit the mold that makes America great. What is coming because of this “we will show you” attitude is never going to make us great.

That is not our America…if that is yours…and you are the majority, then I will gladly be in the minority. 

I will choose to be a good person over the right to disrespect and subjugate our neighbors.  Always.
